Roco offers a digital system primarily aimed at the smaller scales, but it’s becoming increasingly popular with G scalers because of its relative low cost.
Let’s start with the bad news: the Roco system offers an output power of just 3 Amps. To overcome the limited power output, I’ve seen many people purchase an additional DCC booster (e.g. Heller) to provide enough power.
The system is reasonably priced and it offers a PC connection as well as mobile app for Android and Apple smartphones and tablets. The trains can be controlled using the Roco ‘multiMAUS’ controller as well.
There are two versions of the system, the ‘z21’ and ‘Z21’. The Z21 (black) is the top-of-the-line model, the z21 (white) is a simpler version with limited connection and configuration capabilities.
The digital system comes with the central station unit, a WLAN router, and a power supply.
- Output voltage: 11 – 23 V (adjustable)

Pros & Cons:
