Visitor Stats

Latest update: 3 December 2016

Visitor Tracking

Hosting companies usually provide some kind of stats tracker, but from experience I know they overestimate by sometimes up to 500 percent. Also, each tool treats a ‘visitor’, ‘pageview’ or ‘hit’ differently which makes it hard to find a good correlation between data from different tools.

I use the internal WordPress (WP) site stats tool, and the external Google Analytics (GA) tool to track visitors and visitor behaviour. Google Analytics provides quite reliable info, although it seems to underestimate the real view counts.

I have been using Google Analytics since late 2013, and since May 2016 I use the internal WordPress site stats as well. I tend to believe the latter is quite accurate, but I will need to use it for a longer period to see how it compares to Google Analytics.
